Achieving success and learning to dream big are just a few of the themes of the Disney Dreamers Academy, Disney's innovative educational and mentoring program. Applications are now open for the 2014 event.
The Disney Dreamers Academy takes place at the Walt Disney World Resort and theme parks, where the parks actually become the classroom – both behind the scenes and “on stage” – and the students have a chance to make discoveries about themselves and think about what they want in a future career.
The workshops feature motivational speakers and celebrities who share their stories and give the student insight and advice on how to follow their dreams and be successful. The students – known as Dreamers – have a chance to meet other students from around the country while gaining new knowledge from Disney experts.
Each year 100 students are selected from thousands of applicants to participate in workshops related to a wide-range of career paths ranging from animation to zoology. The students who participate in the Academy are also taught important skills such as communication and networking. Syndicated radio and television personality Steve Harvey, along with Essence Magazine and the Walt Disney World Resort host the Dreamers during the four-day Academy.
“Over the past six years, we have helped 600 Dreamers unlock their potential and get started on their journeys in life,” said Disney Dreamers Academy Executive Champion Tracey D. Powell. “The seventh Disney Dreamers Academy marks another year of continued motivation, education and success. Steve Harvey and Essence Communications share in our vision of enriching lives. Everyone leaves this program inspired to live their best life.”
The 2014 Disney Dreamers Academy will take place March 6-9. Participants and a parent or guardian receive an all-expense-paid trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. High school students ages 13-19 who want to apply for the Disney Dreamer Academy can visit www.disneydreamersacademy.com. Applications are being accepted until October 31. The Dreamers will be announced in early 2014.
