Book Review: ‘The DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival’

As a lifelong Disney fan, and a frequent attender of Epcot’s annual International Food and Wine Festival, I thought I knew everything there was to know about the world’s largest food and wine fest.

That is, until I met AJ Wolfe.

Wolfe, who runs the uber popular and oh-so informative Disney Food Blog, makes it her business to know everything there is to know about everything food-related in the World of Disney.  And when we say, everything, that’s what we mean.

So, it was no surprise that this Disney foodie extraordinaire has written the definitive, most comprehensive guide to the festival that is available.  No detail escapes Wolfe’s attention.

In The DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, the author describes, in more than 130 pages, every facet of this year’s event.  The guide, available exclusively as an e-book, includes an in-depth schedule for everyday that the festival runs, from September 30 until it wraps on November 13, as well as helpful links that provide pertinent information from both the guide itself, as well as her website.  The festival, which can be a little overwhelming for even the most seasoned veteran, becomes easy to navigate, as she breaks down events, booths, and special attractions.  The format, which is thoughtfully laid out and easy to read, provides comprehensive lists that detail every type of demonstration, from cooking to wine to mixology.  The electronic format is also available to download to your wireless device, so you never have to worry about toting it around to the parks – just download to your phone and go!

Wolfe also shares who will be at the Festival, and when, so that you can plan ahead and see your favorite chef, or view a demo of a dish from your favorite restaurant.  Here, you will also find every menu item outlined from the Festival’s most popular attractions, the International Marketplace Booths.  And the photos!  A word of warning:  don’t read this book when hungry.  It will send you rummaging through take out menus in hopes of scoring just a tiny taste of what this year’s Festival has in store.

As a Festival veteran (I was lucky enough to get in on the first event, held sixteen years ago!), I loved Wolfe’s description of What’s New.  At a glance, in one compact section, I could view everything new about this year’s event.  Another favorite?  The mini-guide takes the guessing out of how to approach the Festival if you only have a day or two to take it all in.  With her Touring Strategies, Wolfe helps you to navigate the highlights, so that you walk away from the experience with a full tummy, and no regrets.  But the feature I love the most are her Crawls, suggested tours that highlight a particular food or drink.  In this section, she gives the reader the best stops for a Seafood Crawl, a Food and Wine Classics Crawl, and a Dessert Crawl, among others.

And just when you thought the fun was over – the book even covers the popular Eat to the Beat concert series – complete with tips for catching the shows, as well as a playlist!

Any visitor to the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival would do well to pick up a copy of this handy e-book to learn all about the event.  As Wolfe points out, the key to making the most of the event is to plan.  This e-book will give you everything you need for a successful – and enjoyable – trip to this year’s Food and Wine Festival.  The cost for the mini-guide is $13.95 (and no shipping!) and includes five downloads, but use the code CHEF at checkout, and receive $2 off the price.  Click here to purchase The DFB Mini-Guide to the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, and let the fun begin!

Happy Noshing!
