Disney Channel Cancels ‘Shake It Up’

There’s another hit show on Disney Channel’s chopping block. The network recently announced that it has canceled Shake it Up after a 78-episode run.

The show, starring Zendaya and Bella Thorne debuted in 2010 and is the number TV series for among kids ages 6-11 and tweens ages 9-14. On Shake It Up, Rocky (Zendaya) and CeCe (Thorne) star on a local Chicago dance program called ‘Shake It Up, Chicago!’ and the series follows their adventures along with Rocky’s brother Ty (Roshon Fegan), his friend Duece (Adam Irigoyen), CeCe’s brother Flynn (Davis Cleveland), and the girls’ costars Gunther and Tinka (Kenton Duty and Caroline Sunshine).

This is the second hit series to be canceled by Disney Channel this year. In June the network announced that Good Luck Charlie would end its run after four seasons and 100 episodes.

But fans of these two shows shouldn’t fret for too long – Disney Channel is getting ready to debut several new shows including I Didn’t Do It and Girl Meets World. The newest series, Liv & Maddie, debuted in July with strong ratings.

Zendaya, who recently finished in second place on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, is set to star in a Disney Channel original movie based on the book Boys Are Dogs. She also has her debut album hitting stores this fall. Her co-star Thorne has a Hollywood Records deal and a three-book deal with Random House, and is set to star in the movie Home Invasion.

The final episodes of Shake It Up will air this fall.
