Disney Legend Cicely Rigdon, the ‘Keeper of the Keys,’ Passed Away December 31

Disney Legend Cicely Rigdon – affectionately referred to the “Keeper of the Keys” during part of her Disneyland career – passed away on December 31, 2013.

Cicely started her career as a Disneyland ticket seller in 1957, and two years later she joined the Tour Guide Department where she was responsible for initiating its growth and development. She soon was named the supervisor of Guest Relations and had a knack for hiring the best.

In 1967 Cicely’s responsibilities were expanded and she was responsible for Walt Disney’s apartment above the Main Street Fire Station and was given the nickname “Keeper of the Keys.”

The Disneyland Ambassador Program came under Cicely’s leadership in 1982, and she worked with 13 Disneyland Ambassadors who were representing the theme park around the world.

After a 37-year career at Disneyland, Cicely retired in 1994 and was honored with a window on Main Street U.S.A. Her window is located above Disney Showcase and reads: Ambassador Finishing School – Cicely Rigdon – Instructor.

In 2005, Cicely was named a Disney Legend.
