Disney Set to Begin Rollout of RFID Technology to Passholders

Magic Band Reader at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World annual passholders have been wondering when they would get in on the new RFID technology that the resort is rolling out. Now, word is coming that the transition is set to begin immediately.

According to ContactlessNews.com, guests who purchase or renew their annual passes on or after March 20 — today — will be issued passes that utilize the new technology. The most immediate benefit that guests with the new passes will enjoy will be quicker entry to the parks via the My Magic + readers, as lines have become much longer at the turnstiles which don’t incorporate the readers.

Current annual passholders will also have the option to trade in their existing passes for the newer ones as well.  Passholders interested in the exchange can do so at Epcot’s Odyssey Center starting today through May 19.

As more information becomes available officially, stay tuned to DisZine for further details.
