Emma Watson, one of the stars of the Harry Potter films, has signed on to play Belle in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.
Watson posted the casting news on her Facebook page stating: “I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
The live-action film will reportedly be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) and will feature songs from the 1991 animated film in addition to new songs from Alan Menken. Production on the film is slated to start later this year.
Watson starred as Hermione Granger in all of the Harry Potter films. She was named a UN Goodwill Ambassador in 2014.
