National Literacy Month Highlights: Disney VoluntEARS Read to Children and Ridley Pearson Book Signing

To help celebrate literacy during National Literacy Month / School Library Month, crew members from Disney Cruise ships visited and read to children in Nassau, Grand Cayman, and St. Thomas. This project was part of the Disney Reading Together program, which was started 10 years ago and has since promoted reading and literacy. Through the program, cast members visit schools to read to children, and more than 7,000 books have so far been given to communities in the Bahamas and the Caribbean through the program.

Want to celebrate National Literacy Month? You can celebrate with Disney by attending Ridley Pearson’s book signings for the newest Kingdom Keepers book, Dark Passage. Signings for this, the sixth installment in the series, will take place on April 10-11. This book takes place, appropriately enough, on one of the Disney Cruise ships! For more information, including the locations where you can meet Mr. Pearson, visit the Disney Parks Merchandise page.

Or, for more information on Literacy Month, please see the American Library Association’s celebrations page. Grab your favorite Kingdom Keeper book for Teen Literature Day on April 18! And make sure to have your favorite Disney Little Golden Book ready for Children’s Day, also known as El día de los niños, on April 30!

What favorite Disney book will you share with others this month?
