Rumor: Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney Slated for Renovations?

Walt Disney World has historically remained tight-lipped about the future of Downtown Disney, but ParkRumors.com have found some interesting documents that describe a complete overhaul of the shopping, dining and entertainment district.

According to the site, documents were filed with the South Florida Water Management District describing a brand new Downtown Disney, complete with name change: Disney Springs. If the rumors are to be believed, Disney Springs will be divided into six neighborhoods with their own distinct look and feel.

ParkRumors.com breaks it down this way:

  • “The Gateway,” the section of Disney Springs that would act as the gateway hub, complete with a five story parking garage.
  • The Town Center, which would be built on existing parking lots and offer more retail areas
  • The Springs, designed to be a relaxing part of Disney Springs
  • The Landing, a dining section

The remaining two neighborhoods, the West Side and The Village Marketplace, would remain the same.

At this point, these speculations are only that – Disney has not officially confirmed one way or the other whether Downtown Disney will be getting a makeover. In the meantime, what do you think about these rumors? Would you enjoy a re-branded Downtown Disney?
