Stage Version of Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ to Premiere at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre

Sources have announced that Tony winner Mary Zimmerman will write and direct the stage adaptation of Disney’s The Jungle Book when it premieres at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.

The stage production will be based on Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book, which was based on Rudyard Kipling’s books. It tells the story of a young boy named Mowgli who ends up orphaned and raised among the jungle animals in India. The musical will feature several beloved songs from the classic film, such as “Bare Necessities,” as well as several compositions that were cut from the film and brand-new music with Indian roots.

The musical will debut during the theatre’s 2012-2013 season, but casting has not been announced as of this writing.
