The Lion King Run Extended to December 2011 in Las Vegas

Looks like Simba and Friends will be entertaining the crowds in Las Vegas for a while longer.  The Las Vegas run of the Disney’s Broadway hit The Lion King has been extended by 14 months.  Close date for the show is now set for December 30, 2011.

The show, which debuted at Mandalay Bay Theatre in May 2009, will have played for a record 31 months, with well over 1,000 performances at the end of its run.  This marks the longest run of the show in any American city, with the exception of the Broadway performance, which has run continuously since opening in 1997.

“We are proud beyond measure of the way that Las Vegas has embraced The Lion King,” said Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical productions, “and we anticipate a strong final 14 months of performances, given the continued strengthening in the Vegas economy.”

Since it opened on Broadway to critical acclaim on November 13, 1997, The Lion King has been seen by an astounding 45 million people worldwide.  From Broadway, The Lion King became an international hit, playing on stages all over the world. The Lion King at Mandalay Bay is performed Tuesday through Friday evening  at 7:30 PM, and 4 PM and 8 PM on the weekends.  To obtain tickets, please visit The Lion King Las Vegas website.
