The Week in Disney News: Tom Staggs Steps Down, Animal Kingdom Delays, and More

destination dWhew. What a week it’s been in the world of Disney! Let’s jump right into the news.

Tom Staggs, the man many considered the heir apparent to Disney CEO Bob Iger, has announced he is stepping down from his role at Chief Operating Officer at The Walt Disney Company.

Staggs has been with the company for 26 years and will leave for good at the end of September.

Disney World announced that the new nighttime events at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, including Rivers of Light, are delayed. The new nighttime entertainment was supposed to start April 22, but Disney says an update will be provided in mid- to late-May.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge guests can enjoy a brand new behind-the-scenes tour that includes breakfast at Boma and a chance to learn more about the animals that live on the hotel’s savannas.

The Magic Kingdom will celebrate its 45th anniversary this fall and Disney recently gave guests a sneak preview of the new logos for the anniversary.

Speaking of the Magic Kingdom, a new hard ticket event is coming to the park. Disney Early Morning Magic gives guests a chance to ride three Fantasyland attractions and eat breakfast at Pinocchio Village Haus.
