Tokyo Disneyland Resort to Stay Closed for Ten Days

As an update to our previous story about the recent earthquake and tsunami, which devastated parts of Japan Friday, today, we bring you this news:  the Kyodo News Agency reported early Sunday that Tokyo Disneyland Resort will remain closed for ten days, following one of Japan’s worst earthquakes in history.  To quote,

Oriental Land Co. closed Chiba-based Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea, Japan’s most popular amusement facilities, on Saturday to carry out emergency safety checks. The operator said the closure will probably last about 10 days.

Japan was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake on Friday. Over 1,800 people are expected to have died in the disaster, Kyodo reported.

News sources have reported that nearly 70,000 tourists were stranded in Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea overnight following the earthquake and resulting tsunami, primarily due to the interruption of transportation services.  Meanwhile, officials fear that more than 10,000 people may have lost their lives in the horrific disaster.
