VoluntEARS Aide in Beach Clean Up Effort

Eight Disney buses conveyed VoluntEARS to Cocoa Beach Saturday, where a miniature, mouse-ear-clad army helped to clean up area beaches.

The VoluntEARS worked alongside members of Ocean Conservancy, Keep Brevard Beautiful, as well as members of the Coast Guard and employees of Canaveral Port Authority to aide in the clean up, which takes place every year.  Spokesmen for the cleaning effort said that about 500 people cleaned up over a ton of trash from area beaches, which included discarded food wrappers, old shoes, and too many cigarette butts to count.

The volunteer effort goes a long way to save tax payers money, officials say.

Disney has been partnering with Keep Brevard Beautiful for 17 years in the effort to keep Brevard beaches clean.  The cause is particularly near to the company’s heart, because Disney Cruise Line calls Port Canaveral home.

“This is a great opportunity to show how much we care about the environment and our community,” remarked Disney Representative Lauren Falcone.
