Disney Making Wizard of Oz Film

With a $210 box office smash hit for Alice’s opening weekend, Disney’s latched onto another famous “coming of age” story — the Wizard of Oz.
Joe Roth, the producer of “Alice in Wonderland,” is developing “Brick,” a film that focuses on the Wizard of Oz, himself, and his path to the seat behind the curtain in Emerald City. The story, which has the Wizard as a Kansas native, is being written by Mitchell Kapner. It will be based on other L. Frank Baum “Oz” books as well as original ideas.
Interestingly, the film takes an approach from one of it’s competitors — the story of “Wicked,” also being turned into a movie — in that it takes the focus way from Dorothy and friends and centers on one of the side characters in the story.
