D23 to Bring ‘Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives’ Exhibit to Chicago

Last year, D23 gave Disney fans an exciting look at many of the Walt Disney Archives’ most iconic pieces when the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit opened at the Reagan Library in California. This week, it was announced that Midwestern Disney fans will soon be able to see the exhibit as well, as it will travel to Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry this fall.

Stage Version of Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ to Premiere at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre

Sources have announced that Tony winner Mary Zimmerman will write and direct the stage adaptation of Disney’s The Jungle Book when it premieres at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.
The stage production will be based on Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book, which was based on Rudyard Kipling’s books. It tells the story of a young boy named Mowgli who ends up orphaned and raised among the jungle animals in India. The musical will feature several beloved songs from the classic film, such as “Bare Necessities,” as well as several compositions that were …

Disney Closes the Sale of Miramax

Disney completed its deal with a group of investors today for the purchase of Miramax Films to the tune of $663 million.  The investors include construction magnate Ron Tutor, the Los Angeles private equity firm Colony Capital, and Qatar Holding.
Mike Lang, a former Newscorp executive, will be Miramax’s new CEO, but there are no immediate plans to hire top creative leadership.  The reason for this:  rather than going right to work making new films, the new owners plan to spend the next 12 to 18 months reviewing the 300 projects in development, …

Zendaya Coleman and Bella Thorne “Shake it Up” for Disney Channel

Disney Channel is trying out some new tricks — and relying on some old ones — with its brand new show, Shake It Up, debuting on November 7th.
Created by Chris Thompson (known for hits like Laverne and Shirley and Bosom Buddies), this is the first Disney Channel series that will focus on a best friends duo, but it still relies on a “show within a show,” which is a premise the channel has succeeded with before.
