Netflix Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal with Disney

Netflix has just finalized a deal with Disney that gives the streaming service exclusive rights to show Walt Disney Co. movies in as little as seven months after their theatrical release.
While new Disney films won’t be available on Netflix until 2016, older films and direct-to-video releases are already starting to filter in. Analysts are wondering, however, whether the deal – which could cost between $300 to 500 million annually – is worth it for the streaming service.

Cate Blanchett in Talks to Join Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’

Disney’s live-action remake of Cinderella has been under development since 2010, and now rumors are circulating that Cate Blanchett is in talks to be the first cast member to sign onto the project.
Blanchett is rumored to play the role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother, in a re-telling that ex music video director Mark Romanek is slated to direct. He’ll be working from a screenplay directed by Chris Weitz, who took inspiration from Aline Brosh McKenna’s initial pitch to the media giant.

Full Theatrical Trailer Released for Disney’s ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’

Walt Disney Studios have released the first full theatrical trailer for their upcoming flick Oz: The Great and Powerful.
The events of the film take place before L. Frank Baum’s book and the original film. The official synopsis:

Disney Launches Video On-Demand Service in Portugal

Disney announced plans for a new movie on demand service in Europe, in cooperation with local media group ZON. This will be the first movie on demand service in Europe for Disney.
The new service will launch in Portugal, and will offer on-demand selections of popular Disney and Pixar films including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Ratatouille and Enchanted.

Disneynature to Release New Film ‘Bears’ in 2014

Following the success of such previous projects as Chimpanzee, African Cats, and Oceans, Disneynature has now announced the subject of their newest film: Bears. Disneynature is currently in production on the upcoming film Bears, which is slated for release in 2014.

Video: New ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Trailer Released With Reimagined Disney Castle Opening

We can’t wait for the debut of Disney’s new film Wreck-It Ralph in theaters next month, and this week brought the release of a new trailer that makes us even more eager to see what this fun new film has in store.
The new trailer, which was released by Walt Disney Studios UK, gives us some brand-new footage that we haven’t seen in previously released trailers. In addition, the trailer puts a new 8-bit spin on the classic Disney castle opening that perfectly fits the film.

Disney’s ‘The Brave Little Toaster’ Getting CGI Reboot

Disney’s 2D animated classic The Brave Little Toaster will be getting a CGI reboot, sources say.
The film rights were acquired by Waterman Entertainment, who are looking to remake the 1987 film in a fully computerized world. Initially, the movie was pitched to Disney by Pixar giant John Lasseter, but CGI costs were prohibitive back then. Thus, the film ended up with 2D animation.
With Waterman Entertainment acquiring the rights, however, a CGI remake is coming. There is no word on when we can expect work to begin on the reboot, but …

Disney Remaking ‘The Flamingo Kid’

Deadline.com has announced that Disney plans to remake the 1984 film The Flamingo Kid.
In the film, a high school graduate takes a job at The Flamingo Club where the owner eventually ends up mentoring him. Throughout the film, he struggles with his own blue collar upbringing and finds himself drawn to the lifestyle of the rich and famous, but eventually realizes that life comes with a high price.
