Disney’s search for the title character in their upcoming adaptation of Cinderella has now come to an end. While actresses such as Emma Watson and Saoirse Ronan have been rumored for the role, it was announced this week that Lily James will appear as the iconic princess in the upcoming live-action film.

Sources have announced that Mark Romanek and Disney will no longer be working together on the studio’s live-action remake of Cinderella.
According to media reports, Disney and Romanek were at odds over the way the story should be told. Romanek’s version is too dark for the fairy-tale ending the studio wants, but according to Disney they are parting ways on good terms.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, who scored an Oscar nomination for 2007’s Atonement, is reportedly on the short list for the lead role in Disney’s live-action Cinderella.
According to media reports, Ronan is up against two other actresses for the lead role: Swedish star Alicia Vikander and British actress Gabriella Wilde.
While no official word has been given about who will play the lead role in Disney’s remake of the popular film, Ronan’s schedule may conflict with Disney’s plans for the flick. We’ll keep you updated when we know more.

Disney’s live-action remake of Cinderella has been under development since 2010, and now rumors are circulating that Cate Blanchett is in talks to be the first cast member to sign onto the project.
Blanchett is rumored to play the role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother, in a re-telling that ex music video director Mark Romanek is slated to direct. He’ll be working from a screenplay directed by Chris Weitz, who took inspiration from Aline Brosh McKenna’s initial pitch to the media giant.
