ABC & Marvel Considering ‘Avengers’-Themed T.V. Series

The Avengers was a huge blockbuster hit in theaters, raking in millions of dollars and taking the world by storm. Now, ABC and Marvel are reportedly looking to cash in on the film’s success with an Avengers-themed T.V. series.
According to Deadline.com, Marvel’s television division and ABC Studios are currently discussing plans to create a weekly drama set in the Avengers world. However, the connection to the Avengers is expected to be very light and may not include any of the characters that appeared in the film.

Transition Relationship of SOAPnet and Disney Junior Further Clarified

Many fans of SOAPnet have recently been concerned over the news that one of their favorite channels would abruptly stop broadcasting its usual programming on March 23, as it made way for the brand new Disney Junior channel.  However, sources from SOAPnet have reached out to DisZine to explain that the transition would be more gradual.
While SOAPnet will eventually go away, there will be no “hard stop” to its broadcasts.  Rather, SOAPnet and Disney Junior will run concurrently for a period of transition.  More information was shared in this article …

Disney Junior Channel to Debut March 23

After much anticipation, Disney has announced that its newest channel, Disney Junior, will debut in the United States on March 23.
The new channel, which will be available via Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Bright House Networks, Verizon, and other carriers, will launch with programming that is both entertaining, as well as educational.

Anne Sweeney Named MIPCOM 2011 Personality of the Year

Anne Sweeney, Disney/ABC Television Group President, as well as Disney Media Works Co-Chair, has been named MIPCOM’s Personality of the Year for 2011 by Reed MIDEM, a leading organizer globally of tradeshows.  This marks the first time that a woman has been honored with the distinction.
Sweeney will accept the award during a gala dinner for industry executives to be held on October 5 in Cannes, France.  She will also be the keynote speaker for MIPCOM’s Media Mastermind series the same day.  The three day event, held October 3-6, will mark the …

‘Tron: Uprising’ Trailer Debuts

This year’s Comic-Con 2011 brought the release of the newest trailer for the upcoming Disney XD series Tron: Uprising. The animated series will take place between the events of Tron and Tron: Legacy, and will feature the voice talents of Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Lance Henriksen, and Bruce Boxleitner. The numbers are in, and they look great:  based upon ratings, Disney Junior appears to be a resounding success.
The new block of programming, which debuted on the Disney Channel February 14, posted a big ratings boost over its predecessor, Playhouse Disney, from a year ago.  In its first week on air, Disney Junior gave the Disney Channel its best ratings ever among children in general (474,000, up 34% from the same period in 2010,) as well as with boys age 2-5 (262,000, up 48%.)  The block also posted its second-best weekly …

‘Modern Family’s’ Ariel Winter Guest Stars on Upcoming Episode of ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’

“Jake and the Never Land Pirates” will receive a visit from Ariel Winter of ABC’s “Modern Family” next week.
The popular actress will play Marina the mermaid, whom Jake meets when he journeys to Rainbow Falls in hopes of retrieving his surfboard from the dastardly Captain Hook. 
Look for the all-new episode of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” during the Disney Junior block of programming next Thursday, February 24, at 8:30 a.m. EST/PST.

Disney Contemplating Pulling Out of Hulu

The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that both Disney and Fox are considering pulling their content from online video provider Hulu, due to conflict over the service’s business model.
While the site was designed to enable its sponsors to combat pirated versions of TV shows on the internet, it now appears that the plan has backfired – and that the site is actually siphoning viewers away from backers, like Fox and NBC.
