During the Rose Bowl game that aired on ESPN yesterday, Disney released a new commercial for Monsters University. The film, which explores Mike and Sully’s relationship in college – including how they became best friends – promises to be a highly anticipated release.
The promo that aired during yesterday’s game is essentially an advertisement for the fictional Monsters University. Says the official promo description:

We’re learning a little more about the much-anticipated prequel Monsters University, and thanks to one of the stars of the film, Billy Crystal.

News that we first brought to you in January has now been confirmed:  Disney Pixar said Tuesday that their followup to the smash hit Monsters, Inc., originally referred to as Monsters, Inc. 2, will be a prequel.  The title of the new film is Monsters University, the company shared at CinemaCon, held this week in Las Vegas.
The latest installment in the Monsters, Inc. franchise will tell the story of how Sulley and Mike Wazowski forged their friendship while classmates at Monstropolis’ University of Fear, with a few interesting twists thrown in.

Disney movie fans, rejoice! The remainder of 2010 and all of 2011 look to be a mix of highly anticipated and unexpected films from the Disney and Disney-Pixar banners.

Walt Disney Studios announced a few release schedule changes today that affect a number of their upcoming films. The first schedule change comes for “Monsters, Inc 2,” the sequel to the popular Pixar film. Originally reported to open in theaters on November 16, 2012, the film’s release will now be pushed up two weeks, opening instead on November 2 of the same year. This is presumably so the film won’t have to compete with Hollywood’s most popular vampires when “Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Part 2),” the final installment of the popular …

During a recent press briefing, studios chairman Rich Ross announced that Disney’s Pixar division is currently producing “Monster’s Inc. 2,” the sequel to a highly popular original which grossed $525 million worldwide after its release in November 2001. Right in time for the 2012 holiday season, “Monster’s Inc. 2” is scheduled for a November 16th, 2012 release.
