Disney to Sunset “SoapNet” Channel, Making Room For “Disney Junior”

CORRECTION:  Since this story was published, DisZine has been contacted by ABC Daytime and SOAPnet, who offered clarification on the transition of channels carrying SOAPnet to Disney Junior.  According to Publicity Director Mitch Messinger, SOAPnet and Disney Junior will run concurrently until SOAPnet is no longer available.  “SOAPnet will remain available for an undetermined period of time as additional carriage deals for Disney Junior are finalized with distributors,” a spokesperson said.  Many thanks to Mr. Messinger for reaching out to DisZine with this helpful information.

Art Linkletter, Disneyland’s Opening Day Host & “Disney Legend” Honoree, Dies

Art Linkletter died today at his home in Bel-Air, California. At 97 years old Linkletter was not only a legend in the entertainment and media industry but to Disney fans worldwide. He will always be remembered as one of Disneyland’s opening day hosts on July 17, 1955 with Hollywood friends Ronald Reagan and Bob Cummings.

Assistant to Disney Senior Executive Charged in Insider Trading Scheme

Bonnie Jean Hoxie, assistant to a senior Disney executive, & her boyfriend Yonnie Sebbag have been charged with insider trading of Walt Disney Shares by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today. Allegedly, they worked together to send letters to 20 hedge funds offering the sale of advanced information about Disney’s second quarter earnings. This action violates the anti-fraud provisions of federal securities laws.

Disney Reports 13.5 Million Viewers for “LOST” Finale

Buisnessweek is reporting the highest numbers for a season/series finale in the last 3 years.  Over 13 million people tuned in for the “Lost” Finale, and 9 million tuned in for the catchup show that aired before the finale.  Needless to say, the people at Disney and ABC are thrilled.

It’s a Girl! Baby Elephant Born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.

A bouncing 288-pound baby girl has been born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, after a 22-month gestation period the new elephant was born late Friday night & has yet to be given a name. Her Mother, Donna, also gave birth to another female named Nadirah back in 2005. After the new birth this weekend Disney boasts a population of thirteen elephants in their park, including five males and eight females.
