Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District Offering Ice Skating Packages

Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District is home to Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink and now guests can book special ice skating packages.
The packages include a skating session plus a movie, a visit to Build-A-Bear Workshop, or gaming at the ESPN Zone.
The packages are $49 and include: two skating tickets, a $25 AMC Theaters gift card plus complimentary small popcorn; or two skating tickets, a $25 Build-A-Bear gift card plus a reusable cinch bag; or two skating tickets plus a $25 ESPN Zone game card.

The new Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival is now open at Epcot’s Magic Eye Theater.
The short film festival features three animated shorts. Guests will have a chance to look into the “visionary minds” behind the films.

Season Two of Disney XD’s ‘The 7D’ Premieres January 23

The second season of Disney XD’s popular animated series The 7D is set to premiere on January 23.
The series, set in the world of Jollywood, follows the adventures of the Seven Dwarfs as they work to help Queen Delightful keep her kingdom and fend off the Glooms.

‘Travel Weekly’ Names Walt Disney World Resort Best Theme Park

The Walt Disney World Resort has been named the “best theme park” by Travel Weekly in its 2015 Readers Choice Awards.
Readers of Travel Weekly also chose Adventures by Disney as the best tour operators in the “adventure” category and Disney Cruise Line as the “best family experience” in the cruise line category.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Earns $529 Million Globally During Opening Weekend

The Force was awake and breaking box office records last weekend.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned an all-time industry high of $248 million at the domestic box office and $281 million internationally for an all-time global record box office debut of $529 million.

Disney Dealing with Heavy Crowds at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The crowds coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios each evening to view The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has led Disney to adjust parking at the theme park.
Guests have been redirected to park at Epcot in recent weeks and then travel back to the Studios via bus, boat, or on foot.
This is the final season for the fan favorite holiday light display and large crowds are descending upon the park each day to get a glimpse of the dancing and twinkling lights.

Gold BB-8 Created for Force For Change Auction

There’s another golden droid in the Star Wars universe.
Kay Jewelers has created a gold BB-8 for a special auction sponsored by Force For Change.
The custom golden figures is 4.25 inches tall and weighs more than 1.5 lbs. It is set in 18K yellow gold and features 18 carats worth of diamonds.

The Week in Disney News – Metal Detectors Installed at Theme Parks, Skipper Canteen Opens, and More

It’s been another busy week of news at the Walt Disney World Resort! Let’s dive right in to see what made headlines last week.
Perhaps the biggest news story all week was the seemingly-overnight installation of metal detectors at all four of the Disney World theme parks. Guests will be selected at random to go through the metal detectors.
Disney World has also announced it is discontinuing the sale of toy guns and the parks are implementing a ban on costumes for all guests over the age of 14.
