Shanghai Disney Resort Set to Open in June

The Shanghai Disney Resort will celebrate its grand opening on June 16.
The “one-of-a-kind, world-class destination” will host a grand opening celebration on opening day and welcome its first official guests.
According to Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the resort “reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture.”
Shanghai Disney Resort will be home to two resorts – Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the Toy Story Hotel. Guests will also discover a recreation area and a unique retail, dining, and entertainment district.

Disney California Adventure to Host the Happy Lunar New Year Celebration in February

This year is the Year of the Monkey and Disney California Adventure is hosting the Happy Lunar New Year Celebration.
The celebration will take place February 5-8 at Paradise Gardens and will celebrate the traditions of Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.
As part of the celebration, Mulan and Mushu will be joined by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Chip n’ Dale.
Guests will find special merchandise and authentic food offerings throughout the celebration in addition to performers, musicians, and local artisans. Local community groups will also be performing at the Paradise Garden Stage.

New Look for Disneyland’s Rivers of America Revealed

Disneyland’s Rivers of America is getting a facelift.
The expansion project at Disneyland for the new 14-acre Star Wars land is scheduled to begin very soon.
And as part of the expansion, Frontierland will get a new waterfront area along the north bank of the Rivers of America.
The new riverbank will feature an elevated trestle for the Disneyland Railroad while the Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island is surrounded by the river. Walt Disney Imagineering recently released artwork of the updated Rivers of America area.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom to Debut New Interactive Experience – The Lion Guard Adventure

Fans of Disney Junior’s new movie The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar will soon be able to become temporary members of the Lion Guard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
A new interactive experience – The Lion Guard Adventure – is set to debut on February 7 at the Animal Kingdom.
In The Lion Guard Adventure guests can explore the park and search for the five main characters from The Lion Guard – Kion, Bunga, Fuli, Beshte, and Ono. Each of the characters is represented in the park by a large, colorful statue.

Fredison Costa Wins 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon

For the third consecutive year Brazilian runner Fredison Costa has won the Walt Disney World Marathon.
Costa has won the marathon five times in the past six years. His finish time on Sunday was 2:33:24.
The champion runner has been living and training in Orlando for the last two years. He trains at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with US Olympic track coach Brooks Johnson.
Mateus Trindale placed second in the marathon with a time of 2:34:49 and Jeff Martinez placed third with a time of 2:36:00.

Disneyland Resort Launches Next Part of the Decades Merchandise Collection

The Disneyland Resort has released the next part of the Decades merchandise collection spanning the years 1985 to 1994.
The Decades collection is part of the continuing Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration.
The years between 1985 and 1994 saw the 30th and 35th anniversary of Disneyland, the launch of Star Tours and Splash Mountain, changes at the Disneyland Hotel, the debut of Fantasmic, and the opening of Mickey’s Toontown.

We did it! We made it through the first week of the New Year! Disney news was starting to pick up this week so let’s dive right in and see what happened.

Celebrate 2016 with All-new Dated Disney Parks Merchandise

The 2016 dated Disney Parks merchandise is on the shelves at the parks and resorts and it was inspired by music.
Work on this year’s collection started 18 months ago and the creative team with Disney Design Group used music as the inspiration for some of the artwork.
Guests will see characters with instruments and other musical icons on some of the products.
New 2016 dated merchandise includes graphic MagicBands, apparel, hats, Vinylmation, ornaments, Dooney & Bourke handbags, plush toys, and more.

Special Disneyland Ticket Offers Announced for Southern California Residents

Disneyland Resort has recently announced a special ticket deal for Southern California residents.
Residents can choose from a two-or three-day ticket with different options. The ticket offers are: a 2-day ticket with one park per day for $149; a 2-day Park Hopper ticket for $189; a 3-day ticket with one park per day for $179; or a 3-day Park Hopper for $219.
This is a great time to visit Disneyland since the Diamond Celebration has been extended and Season of the Force is also happening right now.

Disney Announces 2016 Slate of Films

The Walt Disney Studios has announced its 2016 slate of films and fans can look forward to several animated features, a Star Wars prequel, and an Alice in Wonderland sequel.
There are 13 films in the 2016 slate including several expected blockbusters and a few possible sleeper hits.
The first film is The Finest Hours starring Chris Pine and it opens January 29. The film tells the story of a Coast Guard rescue and is based on real events.
