Celebrating the New Year at Walt Disney World

Happy New Year’s Eve!
If you’re lucky enough to be celebrating today or tonight at the Walt Disney World Resort there are several special New Year’s Eve events planned at the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Epcot.
Guests at Epcot can enjoy DJ’s spinning tunes in several locations in World Showcase and Future World. A special presentation of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth is planned for 11:40 p.m., featuring a countdown and salute to the New Year.

Canada Pavilion at Epcot Celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday with Special Pin

The Canada Pavilion in Epcot is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with a special commemorative button.
Guests at the pavilion can join in the birthday celebration by answering questions about Canada such as: “What do Canadians call a one dollar coin?” (A Loonie), and “Who hosts Hockey Night in Canada Coach’s Corner?”
Answer the questions correctly and you’ll receive a button.
The free commemorative pins will be available to all guests through July 1, 2017. No purchase is necessary to receive a pin.

New Welcome Show Coming to the Magic Kingdom in January

The Magic Kingdom is introducing a brand new opening moment beginning January 9, 2017.
On that date guests will be able to enter Main Street U.S.A. prior to the park’s scheduled opening time. Guests can visit the Main Street Bakery during this time and enjoy Main Street.
The new opening show will ‘officially’ open the park at the Castle Forecourt Stage at the official opening time.
The show will feature a Royal Herald with a proclamation and several Disney characters, opening the park each morning.

New 2017 Merchandise Coming to the Disney Parks

If you’re visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in 2017 there is a new slate of dated merchandise items arriving very soon.
Some of the new 2017 dated merchandise items feature artwork inspired by the nighttime skies at the Disney Parks. The merchandise features a cosmic theme with patterns, colors inspired by distant galaxies, mixed with Disney characters.
Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice also makes an appearance throughout the art.
Some of the merchandise items include a tote bag with Cinderella Castle, men’s apparel, moon calendar-inspired items featuring Mickey Mouse, and more.

Bookings Available Now for Special Events at Epcot International Festival of the Arts

If you’re making plans to attend the first Epcot Festival of the Arts beginning in January, bookings for several select experiences are now open.
Guests can sign up for interactive workshops including a Gesture Drawing Class led by former Disney animator Todd Bright or a Story Telling Drawing class also from Mr. Bright.
Other workshops include watercolor painting, mixed media art, calligraphy, and floral arrangements. These Interactive Workshops are $39 plus tax and are offered Friday through Monday during the Festival.

Walt Disney World Resort Announces New Vacation Packages for 2017

The Walt Disney World Resort recently announced some new vacation packages for 2017, including a special summer package that includes one quick service meal per person each night.
The first package gives guests the chance to save up to 25 percent on rooms at Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Guests who upgrade to a Magic Your Way package with a minimum 4-day ticket will get an extra day added to their theme park ticket.

Freeform Launches Singing Contest Tied to ‘The Fosters’ Winter Premiere

Freeform recently launched a signing contest where fans can submit a video of themselves singing the theme song from The Fosters, for a chance to be featured on-air during the show’s winter premiere on January 31.
For each contest entry received, Disney and Freeform will donate a book to a child in foster care through First book and the Magic of Storytelling campaign.

Carrie Fisher, ‘Star Wars’ Actress and Hollywood Icon, Dies at Age 60

Carrie Fisher, who rose to fame playing the iconic role of Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars trilogy has died at the age of 60 after suffering cardiac arrest on December 23.
Fisher, the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, had her feature film debut in 1975 in Shampoo. Her breakout role was that of Princess Leia in Star Wars  Episode IV: A New Hope.
She reprised her role in last year’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Disney Gives Sneak Peek at Pandora: The World of Avatar

If you tuned in to the Disney Parks’ Christmas special Sunday morning you had a chance to see the sneak preview of the new Avatar-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Pandora: The World of Avatar is slated to open in the summer of 2017 and if the preview is any indication, it looks to be amazing.

Where to Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Walt Disney World Resort

It’s almost time to ring in 2017 and there’s no better place to celebrate than at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Guests at Epcot can enjoy a DJ at the Future World Fountain Stage from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.
