‘Cars 2: The Video Game’ to Go 3D on the Sony Playstation 3

Cars 2: The Video Game will mark the first game from Disney Interactive Studios that supports Sony’s Playstation 3 3D technology. The Disney game will also be available in 2D on PC/Mac, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and the Wii.

John Blackburn, vice president and general manager of Avalanche Software, who developed the game, said that “the advancement of 3D technology will allow us to immerse the player into the Cars 2 game environment in a whole new way.” He also noted that with the new 3D effects, players will be able to be more engaged in the movie-based environments as well as the single-player and multiplayer race tracks.

Avalanche Software is no stranger to the Disney game franchise – their blockbuster Toy Story 3 game was released last year to critical and commercial acclaim. Jay Ward, the Cars franchise guardian at Pixar Animation Studios, believes “[Avalanche Software] has the technology, experience, and history with Pixar to create the best-looking Cars video game to date.”

Players will be able to race alongside some of the much-loved Cars characters including Lightning McQueen, tow truck Mater, and Ramone, and Blackburn and his team are working very closely with Pixar artists to create the same wit and tone of the feature film, and to translate it into the game environment.

Additional features will include the option of controlling 20 different Cars characters while training to become spies at the international spy training center, C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage.) Players will be able to take on daring missions while competing to be the fastest race car in the world, all while using their trained spy skills in what promises to be a very exhilarating racing game.

Cars 2: The Video Game will ship June 21, 3 days before the latest Cars film hits theaters.  You can pre-order by visiting Amazon.com.
