space mt dlToday marks the 40th anniversary of Space Mountain at Disneyland and the classic version of the attraction has returned!

In recent years the popular attraction has been themed as Hyperspace Mountain for Star Wars and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.

But to celebrate the 40th anniversary, guests will once again have a chance to experience the original, classic version of the ride.

Back in 1977 when the ride opened, the dedication ceremony was attended by Captain Scott Carpenter, Colonel Gordon Cooper, Senator John Glenn, Captain Walter Schirra, Admiral Alan Shepard and Donald “Deke” Slayton, along with Betty Grissom, widow of former Mercury and Apollo 1 astronaut Gus Grissom.

Space Mountain was only the second attraction that opened first at Walt Disney World and then in Disneyland (the other is Country Bear Jamboree).
