Bridget Wismer, a Delaware mom, has plead guilty on charges of selling her newborn son for $15,000 to pay for a trip to Disney World. The baby’s intended buyer, 55 year old John Gavaghan, has also entered a guilty plea.
Sources say that Wismer was planning to use the money to pay for a trip to the theme park for her and her other two children. While she did plead guilty to the sale, she also said that she was mentally ill when she falsified her son’s birth certificate to claim that Gavaghan was the father. When Bridget’s grandmother informed authorities that the baby was sold to John and his partner, Antonio, Bridget and John were both arrested.
According to Wismer, John is a good friend who offered to help when Bridget discovered she was pregnant and unwilling to get an abortion. “I was just waiting for a miracle,” said Wismer.
They will be sentenced in August and could face up to 5 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
