Disney and the American Red Cross Work Together to Teach Kids and Families About Disaster Preparedness

September is National Preparedness Month and Disney has recently expanded its collaboration with the American Red Cross to help families learn how to prepare for emergencies and natural disasters.

As part of this partnership, the American Red Cross and Disney have created the Mickey and Friends Disaster Preparedness Book. The book is available for digital download and it teaches kids and families how to respond to a range of emergencies while incorporating activities and games. The book is available in English and Spanish.

Disney Friends for Change is also working to promote disaster preparedness with a new video starring Disney Channel’s Debbie Ryan (Jessie). The segments air this month online and on Disney Channel and feature three steps to be prepared: Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed.

Disney has also provided a grant to expand The Pillowcase Program which teaches kids to pack essential items in a pillowcase, making for easy transport in an emergency. The program was launched in New Orleans and Los Angeles in 2012 with a $1 million investment from Disney.
