Disney Channel Starts Production on New Comedy Series ‘Jessie’

Disney Channel has recently started production on a brand-new comedy series expected to premiere in the fall. Jessie will star 18-year-old actress Debby Ryan, known for her work on The Suite Life on Deck and 16 Wishes, as the title character, who arrives to New York City from rural Texas. A small town girl with big dreams, Jessie takes a job as a nanny for a highflying family with four children. With these new opportunities and the excitement of New York City at her fingertips, Jessie must learn to adjust to young adulthood and life in the big city, with the help of the children she cares for and some new friends.

Joining Debby Ryan on Jessie as the children that she nannies for will be Peyton List (27 Dresses, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules) as Emma, a smart and cynical 13-year-old and the only biological child of the four; Karan Brar (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules) as Ravi, a 10-year-old adoptee who retains a sense of his Eastern culture but is also very excited about his new American life; Cameron Boyce (Grown Ups) as the mischievous Luke, a 12-year-old who is obsessed with video games; and Skai Jackson (Royal Pains) as Zuri, an adorable and imaginative 7-year-old who has been adopted from Africa. Tony Award-nominated actor Kevin Chamberlin (Broadway’s The Addams Family and Seussical the Musical) will portray Bertram, the family’s frosty butler.

The series was created by Pamela Eells O’Connell (Family Matters, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, The Suite Life on Deck), who also serves as executive producer, and is from It’s a Laugh Productions, Inc.
