Disney Increases Efforts to Incorporate ‘Avengers’ Into Their Theme Parks

For the past month and a half, audiences all over the world have been flocking to see The Avengers in theaters, giving the film the distinction of the highest grossing Disney film of all time. This week, however, it was revealed that these famous superheroes could be making an appearance at Disney’s theme parks in the not-so distant future. In a recent interview, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Tom Staggs revealed that the company is stepping up its efforts to bring these Marvel characters into the parks as a result of the film’s overwhelming success.

While Marvel fans can currently find some of their favorite superheroes over at Universal Studios Orlando’s Islands of Adventure Park, the Marvel characters currently do not have a presence in any of the Disney theme parks beyond merchandise. Last Thursday at an interview held at Disney California Adventure’s Golden Vine Winery, Staggs discussed Disney’s efforts to bring these characters to the parks, saying:

“We were hard at work on attractions using Marvel characters previously, and that work has only intensified given [The Avengers‘] great success.”

However, Staggs says, the company will not be rushing into putting the characters into the parks right away, but rather waiting for the right project. He comments, “The setting has to be right, the story has to be right. That takes a fair amount of time.”

Due to Marvel’s current contract with Universal Studios Orlando, Marvel characters cannot be added to Walt Disney World at this time; any Marvel attractions or characters would be in Disneyland or one of the Disney parks overseas. What do you think? Do you want to see the Marvel characters come to the Disney theme parks? Leave a comment and let us know.
