The fifth annual Magic of Storytelling campaign kicked off this week and runs through March 31.
As part of the campaign, Disney and ABC will donate up to 1 million books to First Books, a nonprofit that provides new books to educators and organizations that serve low-income families.
The Magic of Storytelling “aims to inspire families’ imaginations, cultivate a lifelong love of reading in kids, and bring books to underserved communities across the country.”
Disney has been donating books to First Books for the last 16 years – for a total of 57 million books.
The second annual Disney Reads Day is February 4. On this day (a Saturday) families are encouraged to pick up a book and read independently or together. Families can also visit participating Disney Stores, Barnes & Noble bookstores, or other retailers for story time, themed activities, and more.
The Magic of Storytelling campaign was officially launched with a PSA voiced by Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast). You can view the PSA here.
The PSA will be shared on ABC stations, Freeform, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, and at the Disney Resorts. Each local ABC station will donate 5,000 books to their local communities.
