Disney’s Animal Kingdom Welcomes New Baby Warthogs & Oryx

Three baby warthogs were born recently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. This was the first liter for their mom who’s recovering well from delivery; the babies are expected to be released back into the savannah within several weeks. The three new baby boys will join a population of now 6 warthogs in the Disney family; 4 males and 2 females. That’s not including their portly animated friend, Pumbaa.

Several weeks ago Disney’s Animal Kingdom also welcomed two male scimitar-horned oryx calves into their animal population. Two of the calves, because of complications during birth, were delivered by Caesarean section at the Disney’s Animal Kingdom veterinary hospital at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. The hospital offers Disney guests the opportunity to watch such operations through a glass wall; it’s very rare for guests to see an exciting operation like the birth of a baby animal. The third oryx calve arrived via natural birth. Mom and her three babies are still bonding in a backstage area; no date has been given for their return back into the Kilimanjaro Safaris savannah.
