Johnny Depp and James Corden Officially Cast in ‘Into the Woods’

Last week, we let you know that Johnny Depp was rumored to appear in Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Into the Woods. Now, the casting choice has been made official, as Disney announced this week that both Johnny Depp and British actor James Corden will appear in the film.

Into the Woods weaves together the stories of numerous fairy tale characters, including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. They are all brought together by the story of a Baker and his wife, who must venture into the woods to break the curse keeping them from having a child. Depp will play the supporting role of the Wolf, who finds Little Red Riding Hood as she heads to her Grandmother’s house. Corden will appear as the Baker.

James Corden is a well-known actor in the United Kingdom whose work includes the British television shows Gavin and Stacey and Doctor Who, as well as such films as The History Boys and the upcoming film One Chance. He became known to US audiences last year on Broadway as the star of the play One Man, Two Guvnors, for which he won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play.

Corden and Depp will join Meryl Streep in Into the Woods, who has already been announced to play The Witch. No other casting has yet been announced. Into the Woods will begin filming in London this fall, with a release expected for 2014. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting musical adaptation.
