Pixar Releases Poster for New Short ‘The Blue Umbrella’

While we’re excited to see the return of Mike and Sully to the big screen when Monsters University debuts this summer, we also can’t wait to see Pixar’s newest short, The Blue Umbrella. Following the announcement of the short last month, last week brought the debut of the film’s simple, yet effective, official poster.

The Blue Umbrella, directed by Pixar technical artist Saschka Unseld, tells the love story of two umbrellas against the backdrop of a rainy city. The official synopsis reads, “Amidst the rain in a singing city, two umbrellas – one blue, one not – fall eternally in love.” What is perhaps most interesting about the upcoming short, however, is the incredibly photorealistic look the short will have; though the short will be animated, it will have a live action feel.

The reveal of the new poster came at the same time as the short made its official debut at the Berlin International Film Festival last week. The film will next be screened at South by Southwest in Austin, TX on March 9, 12, and 13. Visit the official SXSW website here for more details.

The Blue Umbrella will officially debut in theaters before Monsters University on June 21, 2013.
