Rosie O’Donnell Set to Star in Recurring Role on ABC Family’s Hit Series ‘The Fosters’

Rosie O’Donnell is headed back to the small screen. The talk show host and actress has reportedly signed on for a recurring role in The Fosters, ABC Family’s hit drama.

The Fosters is a family drama featuring a multi-ethnic family of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms – Stef Foster, a police officer, and Lena Adams, a vice principal.

Stef and Lena have a close-knit family with Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage, and adopted twins, Mariana and Jesus. The family welcomes Callie and her brother Jude into their home but tensions arise when Callie and Brandon get too close and Callie runs away to protect her brother.

O’Donnell will play a character named Rita Hendricks who is a “tough yet compassionate woman who works in the foster care system and becomes a mentor to a member of the Foster family.” She is set to appear in three episodes beginning in January 2014.

The Fosters won the 2013 Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Breakout show. The show is executive produced by Jennifer Lopez and stars Teri Polo (Meet the Parents) as Stef Foster and Sherri Saum (In Treatment) as Lena Adams Foster.

Production on the second half of the show’s first season begins in October.
