‘Star Wars Rebels’ Pilot Set to Launch on Disney Channel in 2014

Star Wars fans, listen up! If you have ever wondered what happened in the years between the end of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of Episode IV: A New Hope, you’re finally going to get the answers in a new animated series.

A one hour pilot episode of a new animated feature, Star Wars Rebels, is in production at Lucasfilm and is set to premiere on the Disney Channel in the fall of 2014. The show is then set to move to Disney XD as on ongoing series.

While there is no official word on who might make an appearance in the series, iconic characters such as Darth Vader, Princess Leia, or even Han Solo could show up as the series takes place during the time when the Empire is tightening its grip on the galaxy and the rebellion against the Empire is starting.

The series boasts three executive producers – screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg (X:Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes), Dave Filoni who was supervising director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Greg Weisman who brings animation experience from Young Justice, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Gargoyles. Kinberg is set to write the premiere episode of Star Wars Rebels.

“I couldn’t be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars.”
