D23 Announces Expanded ‘Hall D23’ for 2015 D23 Expo

The 2015 D23 Expo takes place August 14-16 and a new 7,500-seat venue, Hall D23, has just been announced.
The new venue will host several of the largest events and presentations at the Expo including the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony and The Walt Disney Studios announcements.
The Disney Legends Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14 and will be hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. The ceremony honors those who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy.

This Week in Disney News – ‘Frozen 2’, Pirates of the Caribbean Closure, and a New Name for Disney’s Hollywood Studios

It’s been a whirlwind of big Disney news this week so let’s dive right in!
Disney announced the official kickoff for summer is happening May 22 on both coasts! The Magic Kingdom is hosting a 24-hour event during Memorial Day weekend to start the “Coolest Summer Ever.”
The ‘Coolest Summer Ever’ will include Frozen Summer Fun LIVE at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from June 17 through September 7, Star Wars Weekends from May 15 through June 14, plus the opening of several new restaurants and shops at Downtown Disney.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Get New Name

Sometime, perhaps in the not-too-distant-future, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be known by a different name.
This is according to a statement made by The Walt Disney Company’s Chairman and CEO Bob Iger during Disney’s annual shareholder meeting earlier this week.
When asked (by a 6-year-old) whether the theme park would be changing its name Iger said that they would announce only that the name was being changed, but not what that new name might be.

Spider-Man to Join the Marvel Universe Under New Deal with Sony Pictures and Marvel

After years of speculation it’s official – Spider-Man is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It was announced this week that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios struck a deal and Spider-Man will make his first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in a Marvel film.  Then Sony will release the next Spider-Man franchise film on July 28, 2017.
While the official Marvel film hasn’t been announced, many are thinking Spider-Man will appear in Captain America: Civil War alongside Captain America and Iron Man, since he was an integral part of the comic book story line.

This Week in Disney News – Tom Staggs Promoted, Disneyland 60th Anniversary Artwork, and a New Disney Princess

We’re eight days in to the shortest month of the year and it’s already been a newsworthy month!
The Walt Disney Company announced last week that Tom Staggs has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the company. Staggs was the Chairman of the Parks and Resorts division. Many see this move as positioning Staggs to replace Bob Iger as CEO in 2018.

Tom Staggs Named Chief Operating Officer of The Walt Disney Company

The Walt Disney Company has named Thomas Staggs as its Chief Operating Officer in a move that some see as positioning him to replace Bob Iger in 2018.
Staggs is the Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts where he oversees the strategy, operations, and creative development of the parks.
He will continue to lead the Parks and Resorts division as he assumes the role of COO immediately. A successor will likely be named soon to lead the Parks and Resorts division.

Construction Continues at Shanghai Disney Resort as Signature Hotel is Topped Off

The Shanghai Disney Resort is scheduled to open in 2016 and Disney CEO Bob Iger recently gave an update about the project.
Images of construction at Shanghai Disney Resort were released to the public and include an aerial view of the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the Toy Story Hotel.
The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel was “topped off” just 12 months after vertical construction started. The hotel will feature 420 rooms and is the signature hotel for the resort.
The Toy Story Hotel will be an 800-room hotel and was topped off in 2014.

Disney Confirms ‘Star Wars’ Episodes 8 and 9

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that the next two Star Wars films – episodes 8 and 9 – will be released in the next few years.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in 10 months, and according to Iger’s statement in a shareholder report, Episode 8 will be released in 2017 with Episode 9 coming in 2019.
He also said Episode 9 will “finish the trilogy”, which hints at these three films being a stand-alone trilogy of sort.

New Disney Parks Attractions to be Based on New ‘Star Wars’ Films, Not Original Films

It’s official – sort of. Star Wars is going to have a bigger presence at the Disney Parks around the world, but there’s no word yet on what the means as far as attractions or something else entirely.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger revealed that new Star Wars-themed attractions at the theme parks will be based on the new films and spinoff films rather than the original films.
The announcement came at a Dealmakers Breakfast sponsored by Variety magazine earlier this week.

The Walt Disney Company Unveils Collectible Shareholder Certificate

The Walt Disney Company has unveiled a collectible shareholder certificate to celebrate 90 years of Disney characters.
While the company no longer issues paper stock certificates, shareholders can order this special collectible certificate at DisneyStore.com/ShareholderCertificate.
Only current shareholders can order the certificates and the certificates can be personalized.
This new collectible certificate features characters from Disney, ABC, ESPN, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm including Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell, Anna and Elsa, Captain Jack Sparrow, Buzz Lightyear and Woody, R2-D2, and Doc McStuffins.
