Disney and Pixar Announce New Details About Upcoming Film Slate at D23 Expo

Last weekend’s D23 Expo was full of exciting news about the Disney Parks, but fans also had a chance to hear updates about the film slates from Disney and Pixar.

Sneak Peek of ‘Inside Out’ Coming to Epcot this Summer

An exclusive sneak peek of the new Disney/Pixar film Inside Out is coming to Epcot at the end of this month.
The preview will be shown at the Pavilion Theater in Epcot (home of Captain EO). Currently a sneak preview of Tomorrowland is showing at the theater.
The Inside Out sneak peek will start May 30. Guests visiting Epcot for the Flower and Garden Festival will also have a chance to check out the Inside Out Emotion Garden.

The Walt Disney Studios Announces 2015 Slate of Films

This year looks like it’s going to be another big year for The Walt Disney Studios.
The Studio recently released information on its 2015 slate of films and it includes the live-action Cinderella which hits theaters in March, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron which arrives in May, and the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens which opens on December 18.

Plot for ‘Finding Dory’ Announced by Pixar President at Comic-Con in Brazil

The plot for Finding Dory has been released and perhaps the biggest news is that the movie’s setting isn’t the ocean.
According to Pixar President Jim Morris, the new film will take place at the Marine Biology Institute of California.
The film takes place after Nemo, Marlin, and Dory return to Nemo’s home on the reef. Dory goes on a school field trip with Nemo and has to face memories of her past and her family.

Disney’s ‘Big Hero 6’ and ‘Feast’ Earn Eight Nominations for the 42nd Annual Annie Awards

Disney’s latest animated film – Big Hero 6 – and the newest animated short, Feast, have earned a total of eight nominations for the 42nd annual Annie Awards.
The awards are presented by the International Animated Film Society and are considered the highest honor for an animated film.
The Annie Awards cover 36 categories including Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Special Production, Short Subjects, Commercials, and Outstanding Individual Achievements.

Movies News – ‘Toy Story 4’ is Happening and ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Gets an Official Title

If you’re a fan of Disney/Pixar films or Star Wars – or both – this was definitely your week.
Two big movie related stories broke from the House of the Mouse on November 6. First, it was announced that Star Wars: Episode VII has an official title – The Force Awakens.

Bob Iger’s Term as Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Extended Through June 30, 2018

The Walt Disney Board of Directors has extended Bob Iger’s contract as Chairman and CEO through June 30, 2018.
Iger, 63, has been at the helm of The Walt Disney Company since 2005 and his contract was originally set to expire in 2016.

Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Closing September 27

Another major attraction is closing permanently at the Walt Disney World Resort.
The Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is closing for good on Saturday, September 27 after 25 years of operation.
Disney confirmed the closure and said the attraction is closing to make room for future development.
This is the second major Disney attraction closure announced in the past few weeks. The other attraction – Maelstrom in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion – is closing October 5 to make way for a new Frozen-themed attraction.

Participants Announced for the Disney Accelerator Program

Disney has announced the 11 companies participating in the Disney Accelerator program.
The Disney Accelerator, powered by Techstars, is connecting innovative companies with the Walt Disney Company and giving them access to the creative expertise and resources needed to help them develop new entertainment experiences and products.
The companies selected for the mentorship program are: Buzzstarter, ChoreMonster, Codarica, Cogo, Jogg, Sphero, Sidelines, Snow Shoe, Twigtale, Tyffon, Zombiebooth, and Ubooly.
The Disney Accelerator will provide the companies with the tools and support they need to expand their visions for the next 15 weeks.

Disney’s ‘Frozen’ is the Highest Grossing Animated Film in History

Disney’s monster animated hit, the Academy Award-winning Frozen has just broken yet another box office record becoming the highest grossing animated film ever.
The film opened in its last market – Japan – at the end of March and the box office receipts for the film now total $1.072 billion.
This total trumps Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3’s box office earnings of $1.063 billion in 2010.
Frozen has become the top Disney or Pixar release in 27 overseas territories, and has grossed $50.5 million in Japan since it opened at the end of March.
