The Week in Disney News: ‘Star Wars’ Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort, FastPass+ for Eat to the Beat Concert, and More!

star wars force awakesThis week there was a great disturbance in the Force when it was announced that the Walt Disney World Resort was getting a Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend in 2016. It was as if a million voices cried out in joy when they heard about runDisney’s Star Wars Half Marathon – Dark Side.

This all-new race happens in April 2016 and the Disneyland Star Wars Half Marathon will know be known as the Light Side of the Force.

In other Star Wars news, there’s a global unboxing event happening September 3 leading up to Force Friday on September 4. The event takes place around the world over 18 hours in 15 cities and 12 countries and kicks off in Sydney, Australia. During the event new merchandise from the Star Wars – The Force Awakens line will be unboxed for the first time.

Back at the Walt Disney World Resort guests can now use a brand new app, the Shop Disney Parks app, to find merchandise in the theme parks, buy merchandise at the theme parks and ship it home, and even shop from home for your favorite must-have Walt Disney World merchandise.

Speaking of merchandise, Disneyland has announced its September merchandise events so check out what is happening next month!

September is also when the 20th Epcot International Food and Wine Festival kicks off and now guests can reserve a FastPass+ selection for the Festival’s Eat to the Beat concerts. The concerts are a Tier 1 selection so you’ll need to choose between Soarin’ and a concert.
