This Week in Disney News: Marathons, Sundaes, and Star Wars Weekends

SWW144-posterToday we’re starting a new weekly feature here on DisZine called “This Week in Disney News” where we’ll feature some of the top stories from some of our favorite sites.

The week started with the opening of registrations for the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon. The marathon weekend is proving to be very popular with runners as the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, 10K, Family Fun Run 5K, and the Dopey Challenge are all sold out! The full marathon is currently at 70 percent capacity while Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge is at 55 percent capacity.

runDisney also announced that next year’s marathon weekend will feature newly designed medals for all the races, including a special commemorative medal for the 5th anniversary of Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge.

Disney Food News

Our friends at the Disney Food Blog had some delicious news to share last week, including the news of a new $23 sundae – the Mickey Mouse Kitchen Sink Sundae – available at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and Beaches and Cream at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

But perhaps the biggest Disney food news last week was the grand launch of the DFB’s Guide to Magic Kingdom Snacks e-book, 2014 edition. The 2014 DFB Guide to Magic Kingdom Snacks e-book has been completely updated and includes information and photos on more than 150 snacks at the Magic Kingdom.

Star Wars Weekends News!

In just a couple of weeks Star Wars Weekends begins at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and this year includes a few firsts for the very popular event. Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker!) is appearing for the first time, the event is running for five weekends for the first time ever, and there are several special dining events planned for the first time.

Just last week Disney Parks announced the Feel the Force Dining Event and Dessert Party and the Disney Food Blog has all the details! This event includes reserved premium viewing for the afternoon celebrity motorcade and the evening fireworks, with beverages and snacks at the motorcade and a dessert party for the fireworks!

In other Star Wars Weekends news, the full celebrity lineup has been announced and it includes Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and stars from Star Wars: The Clone Wars plus stars from the new Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels.
