Tim Burton Not Directing Disney’s Live-Action ‘Maleficent’; Angelina Jolie Reportedly Still on Board

Sources recently reported that Tim Burton, who was originally in talks to direct Disney’s Maleficent, has moved away from the project. While Burton had only been loosely involved with Disney’s take on revamping Sleeping Beauty into a live-action film, he was involved enough to the point that Disney had hired Burton’s Alice in Wonderland collaborator Linda Woolverton to write the script. Woolverton also wrote the script for Disney’s The Lion King.

Angelina Jolie is still reportedly attached to the upcoming film, and the movie is being developed with her in mind. Disney doesn’t plan to let Maleficent sit without a director for too long, either; early reports are saying that David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, may take the helm on this one.

We’ll keep you updated when more information is available.
