Disney VoluntEARS Build Mater at Orange County CANstruction Event

This month, Disney VoluntEARS in California donated their time at the Orange County CANstruction event, where they built a sculpture of Mater himself out of 5,700 cans donated by the Disneyland Resort. This is Disney’s fifth year participating in the event, and the group was rewarded with the “Juror’s Favorite” award.

‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ to Close on Broadway January 20

This week, producers announced the sad news that the Tony Award winning play Peter and the Starcatcher‘s Broadway run will soon be coming to an end. The magical show will officially close on Broadway January 20, 2013.

First Look: Concept Art for Magic Kingdom’s Princess Fairytale Hall

While the official opening of the Fantasyland Expansion in Walt Disney World will be taking place in just a few short months, the next phase of the expansion is still underway. This week, Disney released our first look at one of these future attractions, Princess Fairytale Hall, with a new piece of concept art.

D23 Introduces Discounted Membership Renewal Rates

Ever since it began in 2009, Disney’s Official Fan Club, D23, has provided great content, events, discounts, and more for its Disney-loving members. This week, D23 announced that current members who want to keep taking advantage of these perks by renewing their membership will now be able to do so at a discounted renewal rate.
Beginning October 1, D23 members will be able to renew their membership at a lower rate than the regular membership price. Gold membership renewal will cost $64.99, which saves $10, and Silver membership renewals will be …

Star Sighting: Emma ‘Baby Spice’ Bunton Visits Disney’s Hollywood Studios

British singer and Spice Girls member Emma Bunton spiced up her life with a trip to Walt Disney World this week, where she was spotted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Bunton, who is perhaps better known as “Baby Spice,” took some time out of her vacation on Tuesday to pose with Goofy at the park.
Bunton recently reunited with her fellow Spice Girls members for the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where the all-girl pop group gave a special performance. The famed group’s songs will also be featured …

Stride Rite Introduces Disney Princess Footwear Collection

Stride Rite has announced the debut of their Stride Rite for Disney Princess collection. This collection of footwear was inspired by Cinderella, and features three different styles in shades of silver and blue with sparkling accents.
The styles include:

Cinderella Cozy Boot – A sparkling suede boot with a flexible outsole and warm interior lining.
Cinderella Sparkle Flat – A sequined slip-on for day and night.
Cinderella Mary Jane with Magical Lights – A sneaker with Mary Jane styling and magical lights that flash when walking.

Disney Awards Conservation Grant to Wetlands Institute

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has awarded a grant to The Jersey Shore Terrapin Conservation Project, a program through the Wetlands Institute. This project is designed to monitor human impact on diamondback terrapins and help reduce the impact through various conservation measures.
Dr. Lenore Tedesco, Wetlands Institute executive director, says:
We are delighted to be working with DWCF to expand our work to reduce terrapin mortality due to human impacts in our community.  These programs provide the community with opportunities to participate in meaningful and impactful conservation efforts.

Disney VoluntEARS Participate in Worldwide Coastal Cleanups

This fall, Disney VoluntEARS are working to protect wildlife and marine ecosystems with coastal cleanups across the globe. Thus far, cleanups have taken place in Hong Kong and Los Angeles.
The Hong Kong cleanup took place as part of 2012′s Hong Kong International Coastal Cleanup initiative, which is held September 15 to November 4. Over 100 Disney VoluntEARS participated in the event.
More recently, VoluntEARS and community members from Los Angeles collaborated with Heal the Bay to collect more than 36 pounds of trash along the coast of Will Rogers State Beach. …

Central Florida Woman Defends World Record for Mickey Mouse Memorabilia
