Disney's 'Aladdin' Musical Gets Official Broadway Opening Date

This week brought some exciting news regarding the upcoming debut of Disney's Aladdin musical on Broadway, as it was revealed that the show will officially open at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theater on March 20, 2014.
The musical will transfer to Broadway following its pre-Broadway tryout this winter at Toronto's Mirvish Theater, where it runs from November 1 through January 5, 2014. The show will then begin previews on Broadway on February 26, 2014 prior to its official opening date.

‘Newsies’ Celebrates One Year on Broadway

This week brought another big milestone for Disney on Broadway and its hit show Newsies, which celebrated its one year anniversary yesterday, March 29.
Newsies, which features music by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, a book by Harvey Fierstein, and direction by Jeff Calhoun, officially opened on Broadway March 29, 2012. ‘Mary Poppins’ to Close on Broadway This March, ‘Aladdin’ to Arrive On Broadway Spring 2014

Disney will be saying goodbye to one of its Broadway productions this spring, as Disney Theatrical Productions has officially announced that Mary Poppins will be closing on Broadway this March. However, the Disney-owned New Amsterdam Theatre will not be empty for too long, as the musical adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin will arrive on Broadway in 2014.

‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ Closes on Broadway, to Reopen Off-Broadway March 18

Yesterday was a sad day on Broadway, as the Broadway production of Peter and the Starcatcher officially played its final performance. However, fans of the enchanting play will not have to go without it for too long. ‘Newsies’ on Broadway Recoups Initial Investment

Since it opened on Broadway this past spring, Newsies has proved to be one of Broadway’s most popular shows. The musical’s popularity paid off this week, when it was announced that the show has completely recouped its investment.
Newsies opened this past March on Broadway, following a prior run at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse. This means that the show was able to recoup its entire $5 million investment in just nine months, marking the fastest a Disney production has ever been able to turn a profit.

Disney and USO Provide Entertainment for Sandy Relief Workers

In a partnership with the USO, Disney Theatrical Group recently arranged for a little entertainment for service workers in New York City to aide with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The move is part of Disney’s continued efforts to support victims of the storm, which swept through the northeast United States in late October, bringing widespread devastation.

Disney Theatricals Cancels Broadway Performances Due to Hurricane Sandy

Those of us on the East Coast are gearing up for Hurricane Sandy and its effects over the next few days, and in preparation for the storm, Disney Theatrical Productions has canceled several performances of its Broadway productions.
The October 28-29 performances of Newsies, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King will be officially canceled, Disney Theatricals announced this afternoon. The dates/times of the canceled performances are as follows:

Alton Fitzgerald White to Release ‘Disney My Way’ in October

Alton Fitzgerald White, who plays Mufasa in Broadway’s The Lion King, will be releasing his second solo album next month: Disney My Way.
