‘Newsies’ Celebrates One Year on Broadway

This week brought another big milestone for Disney on Broadway and its hit show Newsies, which celebrated its one year anniversary yesterday, March 29.

Newsies, which features music by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, a book by Harvey Fierstein, and direction by Jeff Calhoun, officially opened on Broadway March 29, 2012. The show’s Broadway transfer, following a successful run at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse, was initially intended to be a strictly limited engagement, with the show originally set to close on June 10. However, the show proved to be incredibly beloved by Broadway audiences, even recouping its investment, a rare feat for Broadway shows, proving that the musical will likely be sticking around on Broadway for quite a while longer.

To celebrate Newsies‘ anniversary, Disney on Broadway released a new behind-the-scenes video, which features many of the musical’s cast members commenting on the show’s milestone. Check out the video below:

Newsies is currently playing at Broadway’s Nederlander Theater on West 41st Street in New York, NY. For more information about the show and to purchase tickets, visit NewsiestheMusical.com.
