Mariah Carey Records Song for Disney’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’

Today, Disney has announced that superstar Mariah Carey has recorded a song for Disney’s upcoming Oz The Great and Powerful.
The song, called “Almost Home,” will be released as a single on February 19, 2013. Long-time collaborator David LaChapelle will direct Carey in the music video for her single. Previously, LaChapelle photographed the recording artist for various album covers and directed her music video for “Loverboy.”

Kenneth Branagh In Talks to Direct Disney’s Live-Action ‘Cinderella’

When Disney broke the news that Mark Romanek would no longer be directing their live-action version of Cinderella, the fate of the highly anticipated film was unclear.
Now, media sources are reporting that the Mouse House is in negotiations with Kenneth Branagh to helm the movie. If all goes well, Cinderella should start shooting in London this fall.
Cate Blanchett is also still slated to take on the role of the wicked stepmother, although Disney is still searching for the perfect fit for the lead role. If all goes according to plan, the film should hit …

Disney’s ‘1952’ Movie Changes to ‘Tomorrowland’

Disney’s upcoming flick 1952 has received a name change: Tomorrowland. But will the film tie-in to the Disney Parks area of the same name?
The upcoming live-action flick will star George Clooney, and Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird have penned the script. While details of the movie are remaining tightly under wraps, both Bird and Lindelof have posted clues about the movie on Twitter, including black and white photos of Walt Disney himself.
Disney officials wouldn’t comment on whether any scenes would be filmed at Disneyland.

London Street Gets an 8-Bit Makeover as Promo for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’

Haven’t you always wanted to live in a video game – at least for a little while? This past weekend, those living near and visiting Brick Lane in London were able to imagine themselves doing just that, as the city street was transformed into an 8-bit paradise complete with pixelated pigeons, a taxi, clouds, dogs…and even 8-bit dog poo, all created by Disney film production sculptor Aden Hynes. The retro makeover was a promo for Wreck-It Ralph, which is being released in the UK on February 8.

Disney Announces Release Dates for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ and Other Sequels

Disney has announced release dates for several of their highly-anticipated films, including Pirates of the Caribbean 5. After recently hiring Jeff Nathanson to pen the script for the follow-up film in the franchise, Disney has announced a release date of July 10, 2015.
For their as-yet-untitled Muppets sequel, fans can expect that movie to appear in theaters March 21, 2014. Meanwhile, that film will be followed by the Captain America sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, Maleficent on July 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, all in 2014 as well.

‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ Headed to Blu-Ray

Early next year, beloved Disney classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit? will get a special Blu-ray release.
The 25th Anniversary Edition of the film will include a host of extras that are not available on the DVD version, including digitally restored versions of the “Roger Rabbit Shorts” as well as exclusive featurettes. The film will be available March 12 and include both a DVD and Blu-ray version.
In addition to Roger Rabbit, several other Disney films are being re-released on Blu-ray. Mulan, the 1998 film, will see a special re-release that also includes the direct-to-video sequel Mulan II. The Hunchback of …

Disney Buys Pitch for ‘Don Quixote’

Sources have announced that Disney has wrapped up a deal for an untitled pitch written by Steve Pink and Jeff Morris. The story, a modern re-take on Don Quixote, will be produced by Infinitum Nihil’s Johnny Depp and Christi Dembrowski.
Johnny Depp has made no secret of his fascination with the Don Quixote character, and was even attached to the Quixote film that Terry Gilliam was previously trying to make.
While few details are available about the film at this point, we’ll update you as soon as we know more.

Craig Gillespie to Direct Disney’s  ‘Million Dollar Arm’

According to sources, Craig Gillespie is in negotiations with Disney to direct their sports flick Million Dollar Man.
The film is based on the true story of sports agent J.B. Bernstein (played by Jon Hamm,) who discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel through a reality show he produced in India.
Gillespie previously helmed Lars and the Real Girl, as well as Mr. Woodcock and the remake of DreamWorks’ Fright Night. As of this writing, the film does not have an expected release date.

Disney Wins ‘Santa Paws’ Copyright Lawsuit

A copyright lawsuit brought against Disney in December has been dismissed, sources are reporting.
Ray Harter, Richard Kearney and Ed Corno sued the media giant for copyright infringement last year, claiming that Disney’s direct-to-DVD movies Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws and The Search for Santa Paws were direct rip-off’s of their short story and script Santa Paws: The Story of Santa’s Dog. According to the plaintiffs, they conceived of their “Santa Paws” in 1991.
While there are similarities between Disney’s movies and the plaintiffs script, a ruling on Thursday granted …

Disney Bringing ‘Judge Dredd’ and ‘Ed Wood’ to Blu-ray

Two oldies but goodies will be coming out of the Disney vault and heading to Blu-ray this fall – Judge Dredd and Tim Burton’s black and white classic, Ed Wood.
On September 18, Walt Disney Home Entertainment will release Judge Dredd for the first time ever on Blu-ray. Given the Dredd 3D reboot that’s currently in the works, the release of this 90’s film on Blu-ray will likely entice not only fans of the original, but prompt them to see the upcoming remake as well.
