Epcot’s ‘Habit Heroes’ Exhibit Causes Controversy

A few weeks ago, Walt Disney World’s Epcot installed a new exhibit in Innoventions, a showcase of various exhibits designed to promote new ideas and technologies. The new exhibit, “Habit Heroes,” was a joint effort by Disney and Blue Cross and Blue Shield to combat childhood obesity through interactive games.

First Poster Revealed for Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’

We let you know yesterday about the new poster that was released for Disney/Pixar’s Brave this week, but Walt Disney Studios has brought us another special poster in the past few days as well. The first poster for the upcoming Tim Burton film Frankenweenie was recently revealed, giving us one of our first looks at the stop-motion animated film.
The film, helmed by legendary director Tim Burton, is a feature length remake of Burton’s 1984 short film of the same name. Here is the film’s official description:

Disney Mobile Magic App Now Available for iPhone

While Verizon Android customers have had access to the Disney Mobile Magic application for over a year now, with free access since last August, this week brought the release of the app to iPhone customers for the first time. The official Disney Parks app provides guide maps, wait times, FASTPASS return times, character information, and more for theme park guests in Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

New Extended Trailer and Poster Released for ‘Brave’

This week, Disney and Pixar brought us a brand-new look at their upcoming film Brave with the release of a brand-new poster and trailer for the film. The poster features the film’s star, Princess Merida, a Scottish princess who is unhappy with the path of marriage that she is expected to follow.

Atlantis Productions to Launch the Asian Premiere of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ Musical

In collaboration with Music Theatre International, Atlantis Productions will stage the Asian premiere of Disney’s Aladdin. The musical will be closely based on the film, and feature music from Oscar winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Oscar Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin.

Official Closing Date for Snow White’s Scary Adventures Announced

Work continues to progress on the Fantasyland expansion at Magic Kingdom theme park, which means park guests will need to say goodbye to a beloved Walt Disney World attraction – Snow White’s Scary Adventures.
The attraction, which has been a fixture at the park since 1971, will close for good on June 1, 2012 to make room for a new Disney Princess meet-and-greet location. Those who love the classic ride will be able to enjoy a new Snow White-themed attraction, however – the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster.

Full Schedule for Magic Kingdom’s ‘One More Disney Day’ Announced

To celebrate Leap Year, Magic Kingdom will be offering “One More Disney Day.” This means the park will open at 6 a.m. on February 29, and close March 1 at 6 a.m. The park will re-open on Thursday at 9 a.m. as scheduled. The full calendar of events can be seen below, including special hours for many of the attractions, restaurants and entertainment.

Edgar Wright in Talks to Direct Disney’s ‘Night Stalker’

On Wednesday, Disney confirmed that Edgar Wright, who previously worked on the films Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz is in talks to direct the company’s The Night Stalker.
The Night Stalker is originally based on Jeff Rice’s novel The Kolchak Papers, and was also a 1970’s television series starring Darren McGavin. The film follows the story of reporter Carl Kolchak, who ends up investigating supernatural occurrences.

Disney Films Coming to China’s You On Demand Service

On Wednesday, China’s video-on-demand service You On Demand reached an agreement with The Walt Disney Company to show Disney films, ranging from classic titles such as The Lion King and Mary Poppins to more recent flicks like War Horse.
The movies will be available via their subscription service, and Chinese viewers can expect to shell out anywhere from $1 to $3 to watch the Disney films.

Portion of Storybook Circus to Open Late March at Magic Kingdom

Work is progressing on the Magic Kingdom’s new Fantasyland, and sources tell us that a portion of Storybook Circus will be open sometime in late March.
One of the elements visitors can expect to see during the opening will be the first carousel of Dumbo the Flying Elephant, which will also feature multicolored circus tents and other decor inspired by the Disney film. Once the entire section is complete, Casey Jr., the locomotive from the film, will make an appearance as well.
