Central Florida Charities Benefit from Marathoners’ Donations

Ever wonder what happens to the shirts that runners discard during a race?  At Walt Disney World, these jackets, shirts and other goodies get donated to those in need.

Over the last two weeks, Disney has distributed nearly 25,000 items that it collected during its recent Marathon Weekend.  That’s more than seven tons of coats, sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, hats, even gloves that have gone to clothe the less fortunate in Orange and Osceola County Public Schools, as well as Covenant House.

The clothing was shed by runners who participated in the various events during Disney’s Marathon Weekend in January.  Disney laundered the clothing before donating it to local charities.
