National Geographic Builds – and Flies – Its Own ‘Up’ House

Sure, we’ve all dreamed of floating away to someplace else, up, up and away, just like the characters in the Disney Pixar film “Up!”  But could it actually be done?

National Geographic Channel decided to give it a try.  This past weekend, producers of their new show “How Hard Can It Be?” tied 300 8′ weather balloons – each filled with an entire container of helium – to a small, frame 16×16′ house.  The crew were successful in their bid, as the house stayed airborne for an hour, and reached an altitude of 10,000 feet!

What do you think – would you like to take your house for a spin?  It might be more convenient than all of those extra fees airlines are charging…
