First Look: First Concept Art Released for Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur,’ ‘The Inside Out,’ and Dia de los Muertos

Ever since their initial announcements at the 2011 D23 Expo, we’ve been eagerly waiting for more information about Pixar’s upcoming films, which include The Good Dinosaur and The Inside Out. This week, we got a little bit of information about these intriguing projects, as the first pieces of concept art were released for the two films, as well as Lee Unkrich’s upcoming “Dia de los Muertos” film.

Pixar: Behind the Screens Event Debuting at the Sydney Opera House’s GRAPHIC Festival

At the annual GRAPHIC Animation Festival held at Sydney’s Opera House in Australia, attendees will be able to get a behind-the-scenes in Pixar: Behind the Screens.
Lee Unkrich, director from Pixar Animation Studios, will give fans a unique glimpse at 25 years of animation, showing attendees what it takes to create a film from storyboard to the big screen. Additionally, there will be exclusive previews of upcoming Pixar films.

Video: Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for ‘Finding Nemo 3D’

We can’t wait for the Disney/Pixar classic Finding Nemo to be released in 3D in theaters nationwide in just a few weeks. In anticipation of the film’s re-release, Walt Disney Studios New Zealand recently released a behind-the-scenes featurette about the film and its tranformation to 3D.

Pixar Announces New Film From ‘Toy Story 3’ Director, Reveals Details About Upcoming Films

At this week’s CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, Pixar announced some interesting new details about their upcoming films. Following the announcement of two brand-new Pixar films at the D23 Expo last summer, this week’s presentation brought us a little closer to finding out just what these new films are all about.

Unkrich Begins Work on Next Project with Promise to Keep Fans in the Loop

Lee Unkrich, director of some of Pixar’s most memorable films, is hard at work on his next project.
No word whether it’s the highly conceptual “trip inside the mind,” untitled and scheduled for release in 2014 or possibly even the next installment in the Toy Story franchise, but he promises to keep fans abreast of the progress.  Yesterday morning, he tweeted about the updates:  “Today is day one on my next project. ‘Toy Story 3’ Director Auctions Pixar Collectibles to Help Japanese Earthquake Relief

Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3 has put up a number of Pixar collectibles on eBay to help with the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. The items up for auction are quite varied, but are all Pixar-related memorabilia he has collected over the years.
One particular piece, such as this limited edition print from Disney/Pixar’s Up, is currently up for auction. The print, which was given to Pixar employees after the film was made, only had 1200 copies ever created. This particular print is from Unkrich’s own personal collection.

New Details Emerge about Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’

New concept art from Disney Pixar’s upcoming “Brave” was posted at Entertainment Weekly online earlier this week, and gives fans an eyeful of the amazing scenes we can expect to see when the feature arrives June 22, 2012. In addition to the artwork, EW’s piece also mentioned several more details about the film, including the fact that Reese Witherspoon won’t be voicing the lead character Princess Merida. Due to scheduling issues, Witherspoon was replaced with Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald.

‘Toy Story 3’ Director Lee Unkrich to be Honored with Prestigious Award

Director Lee Unkrich , noted Pixar creative force who is most recently known for his work on the blockbuster “Toy Story 3,” will soon add another award to his trophy case, as the University of Southern California graduate has been named the recipient of this year’s Mary Pickford Alumni Award.

The award, which recognizes alumni contributions to the cinematic arts, will be presented to Unkrich at the graduation ceremony for USC’s School of the Cinematic Arts.  The ceremony will be held May 13 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Teddy Newton and Lee Unkrich to Participate in Oscar Panels Open to the Public

Teddy Newton and Lee Unkrich will be participating in panel discussions sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.
On Tuesday, February 22, Newton, director of the Disney Pixar short “Day & Night,” will participate in Oscar’s Annual celebration, Shorts!  The event, which includes a screening of both the live action and animated short films nominated for this year’s Oscars, will also feature a discussion by many of the films’ directors.

‘Toy Story 3’ Tops TIME’s Best Movies List

“Toy Story 3” has been critically acclaimed, and audiences have overwhelmingly embraced the sequel this year, making it a commercial success as well.  And now, we can add TIME magazine to the list of fans.
In it’s Top 10 of Everything feature, TIME has named “Toy Story 3” as the Number one movie of 2010.  The article recognizes director Lee Unkrich and writer Michael Arndt as leaders in Hollywood circles, who have created a “powerful fable” that could teach movie writers and makers a thing or two about storytelling.
