The Walt Disney Company Reports Third Quarter Earnings

This week The Walt Disney Company reported its third quarter earnings for the fiscal year with parks and resorts and media networks showing increases in revenue.

The company’s net income increased 1 percent up to $1.85 billion, and revenue increased 4 percent to $11.58 billion which was still lower than Wall Street’s expectation of $11.7 billion.

Disney Becomes First Studio to Cross $1 Billion at Domestic Box Office This Year

Despite the underperformance of The Lone Ranger, Disney reached a major milestone this week, as their domestic box office grosses officially hit the $1 billion mark. This is the eighth year in a row that Disney has been the first studio to reach this milestone.

‘The Lone Ranger’ Stumbles at the Box Office, Finishes Weekend in Second Place

The Lone Ranger and Tonto were no match for a reformed villain and his band of merry minions at the box office.
Disney’s The Lone Ranger earned a dismal $48.9 million, ending its debut weekend in second place way behind Universal’s Despicable Me 2 which earned $142 million. Analysts had projected an opening weekend of $90 million for the movie directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Of the $48.9 million box office, the film earned $29.4 million between Friday and Saturday. This three-day total was worse than the debut …

Student Fashion Designers Inspired by ‘Monsters University’

Students at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles recently had a chance to work with artists at Disney Consumer Products to create a sportswear collection based on characters from Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University.
The college offers more than a dozen programs including Fashion Design, Toy Design, and Fine Arts, and this partnership with Disney was a chance for students to get real-world design experience as they worked to bring Mike, Sulley, and Art to life through clothes.

‘Monsters University’ Opens at the Top of the Box Office Taking in $82 Million during Debut Weekend

Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University graduated at the top of its class, earning an $82 million during its debut weekend in theaters.
This marks the 14th number one opening weekend for Pixar at the box office. The Disney-owned studio has only released 14 films, which means every film released by Pixar has opened in first place.
Monsters University was playing in 4,004 theaters in the U.S. during its debut weekend and the $82 million box office makes it the second biggest opening for Pixar, just behind Toy Story 3 which earned $110.3 million in …

The Walt Disney Company and Subway Restaurants Collaborate for Release of ‘Monsters University’ and ‘The Lone Ranger’

This summer Disney is once again collaborating with SUBWAY restaurants to celebrate the release of two highly-anticipated summer movies – Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University and Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ The Lone Ranger.
SUBWAY is the “Official Training Restaurant for Monsters Everywhere” and throughout the month of June monsters will be making cameo appearances in commercials for the restaurants, and all Fresh Fit For Kids meals will come in a Monsters University reusable backpack. Artist Signing for Monsters University Vinylmation Series 1 Planned for June 14

Disney Design Group Character Artist Ron Cohee will be at D Street in Downtown Disney West Side on Friday, June 14 for a special showcase and signing of the new Monsters University Series 1 Vinylmation figures.
The new series features Vinylmations of Mike Wazowski, James P. “Sully” Sullivan, and other characters from the Disney/Pixar film Monsters University. The film opens in theaters on June 21.
