‘The Avengers’ Sequel Gets Official Release Date

This summer, Disney and Marvel Studios’ hit film The Avengers became a worldwide sensation, breaking box office records and becoming the highest grossing Disney film of all time. Following the film’s success, Disney and Marvel have now announced the release date of the film’s sequel, which will debut in theaters on May 1, 2015.

The sequel will once again be directed and written by Avengers director Joss Whedon. Last week, Disney announced that Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel through June 2015, which involves helming Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live-action Marvel television series at ABC and “contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”

While the Avengers sequel won’t be seen for a few more years, Marvel fans can still look forward to Marvel’s slate of upcoming films, many of which involve some of the Avengers’ individual members. Marvel’s next feature film, Iron Man 3, is currently in production with a release date of May 3, 2013. The film will then be followed by Thor: The Dark World on Nov. 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and and Guardians of the Galaxy on Aug. 1, 2014.
